VANCOUVER – Niall Cousens scored two goals on Saturday night as the visiting UBC Thunderbirds won their sixth consecutive game in a 4-0 performance against the UBC Okanagan Heat in Canada West men's soccer action in Kelowna, B.C.

A solid offensive effort by the Thunderbirds proved to be too much for UBC Okanagan's defence. Four of UBC's 13 shots on target made it past Heat goalkeeper Christopher Cuthill. All four goals came in the first half of the game.
 
Cousens started off the scoring for the Thunderbirds. Last year's CIS Tournament MVP beat Cuthill a mere three and a half minutes into the game.
 
Jules Chopin added the game's second goal in the 18th minute. A transfer from Simon Fraser University, the Nelson, B.C., midfielder has made an impact with two goals on the season.
 
Cousens scored his second goal of the match in the 31st minute to give the Thunderbirds a comfortable three-goal lead. The fourth year Kinesiology student has four goals so far this year.
 
Navid Mashinchi got in on the action in the 36th minute. Scoring his fifth goal of the season, Mashinchi is now two off his total in 2013.

Richard Meister started the game in net for the T-Birds and earned the win. He made one save before making way for Chris Beck, who turned aside two shots in his first action of the season.
 
UBC remains perfect on the season after a successful road trip, improving to 6-0-0. The Heat lose their second consecutive game, dropping to 3-3-0 in conference play. The teams will face off once more on Oct. 4 in Vancouver.

The Thunderbirds return to action after a bye weekend, playing host to Thompson Rivers University on Friday, Oct. 3.
