VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team beat the Langara Falcons 1-0 on Friday night at Varsity Field in its final preseason game of the 2014 season.

Reetu Johal, a rookie midfielder from Surrey, scored the game's only goal in the 75th minute. She fired a shot that deflected off a Falcons defender and into the Langara net. The assist went to
Janna Speed.

The Thunderbirds outshot the visiting Falcons 10-1.

The victory gives UBC a 2-1 record in the preseason portion of its 2014 schedule. The T-Birds claimed a 1-0 win over the defending Canada West champion Alberta Pandas on Aug. 18 on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium.
Taylor Shannik scored the only goal on a free kick from about 25 yards out.

Four days later, UBC dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting Western Washington Vikings, an NCAA Div. II team, at Varsity Field.

The team's season opener will be on Friday, Sept. 5 in Victoria against Vikes. On Sept. 7, UBC will travel to Abbotsford to face Fraser Valley.
