VANCOUVER - The No. 5 UBC men's volleyball team (7-1) hits the road this weekend for a series against the University of Manitoba Bisons. The Bisons are nipping at the heels of the Thunderbirds with a 5-3 record and sit four points behind UBC, who is currently second in the conference with 14 points on the season.
UBC is coming off a weekend sweep of UBC Okanagan, extending its winning streak to fives games. Only Alberta at 8-0 has a better record then the Thunderbirds.
Last weekend, second-year outside hitter Irvan Brar was the star for the T-Birds, recording 29 kills total, which led all players over the weekend. Teammate Mac McNicol followed closely with 25 kills on the attack side. Â
As for Manitoba, UBC will need to keep an eye on Devren Dear at the net, as he boasts an impressive 4.08 kills per set average for the Bisons. Â
Friday's game will commence at 6 p.m. PT while Saturday's action begins at 5 p.m. PT at Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg. Games can be viewed via live webcast at canadawest.tv.
