Thunderbirds win Canada West bronze with a 2-1 win over Victoria

Saskatoon, SK - The UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team settle for Canada West bronze, defeating Victoria 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Saskatoon. 
 
A late goal from Alex Orasa secured a 2-1 comeback for the Thunderbirds and a third place finish.
 
UBC pushed forward attempting to score an early goal in the first half. Midfielder Sean Einarsson had the Thunderbirds best chances with two shots stopped by Victoria goalkeeper Noah Pawlowski in the 15th and 20th minutes.
 
But it was Victoria who almost got the first with a stunning shot by Cameron Stokes that hit the post in the 25th minute.  Stokes hit back two minutes later with a high shot.
 
Victoria continued their attack as they forced Thunderbirds goalkeeper Richard Meister to make another save in the 29th minute.
 
The Thunderbirds also had their share of missed shots by Orasa, Milad Mehrabi and Niall Cousens before the exciting first half ended 0-0.
 
Halftime saw Victoria make six substitutions and UBC make four.
 
An own goal by UBC gave Victoria the lead in the 51st minute. 

As time went on, UBC head coach Mike Mosher decided to put Canada West MVP Navid Mashinchi into the game in the 68th minute after not starting his star player.

In 72nd minute, right-winger Jules Chopin finally made it 1-1 with a well taken shot.

In the 78th minute, Defender Tyler Mertens almost made it 2-1 when he headed a Mashinchi corner on target but it was denied by Pawlowski.
 
The 88thminute saw UBC score the goal to seal the game and make it 2-1. Orasa was the hero as his well-taken shot defeated Pawlowski. 2-1 is how things would end. 
 
With the victory the UBC Thunderbirds clinched the Canada West bronze medal as their season came to a close to.
