No.1 ranked Thunderbirds return home for a pair of games

Vancouver, BC - The No.1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team will try to keep their undefeated run as they play host to Thompson Rivers University and UBC Okanagan this weekend at Thunderbird Stadium.

The Thunderbirds were successful in beating both TRU and UBC Okanagan on the road two weeks ago. On paper the two matchups look like a walk in the park for the undefeated Birds, but UBC head coach Mike Mosher can't leave anything to chance. The Thunderbirds are leading the Pacific Division with a perfect 18 points, three ahead of the University of Victoria.

Thus far, the Thunderbirds have had an impeccable defensive line, which has only conceded two goals so far, the best in Canada. It would also be interesting to see if goalkeeper Richard Meister keeps his 100% saves percentage this weekend. Coach Mosher has rotated between him and Ante Boskovic throughout the season.

On the offensive line, Thunderbirds' Navid Mashinchi is looking as sharp as ever when he tries to increase his goals tally this weekend. He stands with five goals, second best in the Canada West. Mashinchi also leads the league in assists chart with six.

Thompson Rivers University has had their struggles this season and the chances of a trip to the playoffs are slim. They have yet to win on the season and managed just one tie. TRU have failed to score a single goal in the season so far. This could mean that they have nothing to lose on Friday night, causing a tricky game for the Thunderbirds.

UBC Okanagan are in a better shape than TRU. They have a (4-4) record so far, and are in the middle of the playoffs battle. Saturday's game could prove very important to UBCO's hopes of making the playoffs.
