Vancouver, BC - The UBC men's hockey team is on an impressive six-game winning streak with no intention of losing its momentum as it heads into the upcoming weekend. Despite a tough start to the season, the team has rebounded with commitment and zeal, as exemplified by their winning momentum that dates back to late November. After coming off of an exhilarating shootout win over the University of Regina, the Thunderbirds will host the No. 2-ranked University of Alberta this Friday and Saturday at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

Last weekend, UBC improved its record to 7-10-1 with a weekend sweep of Regina.
Cole Wilson, who currently ranks as the sixth top scorer in Canada West, led the Thunderbirds to victory Friday with two goals, while both
Dillon Wagner and
Ben Schmidt contributed one goal each to put UBC ahead 4-2. Saturday evening,
Brad Hoban,
Greg Fraser, and
Luke Lockhart led the offensive charge with a goal apiece, and Wilson scored the shootout winnter to secure the victory.
Steven Stanford, who was between the pipes both nights for UBC, stopped 60 of 65 shots he faced over the course of the weekend. With the pair of wins, UBC overcame Mount Royal to take over the sixth and final playoff spot in the Canada West.

The Alberta Golden Bears currently stand 16-2 in conference play, placing them in second place behind the No.1 ranked University of Calgary, who remain undefeated in regulation. The Golden Bears two losses this season have come against Calgary and Manitoba. Last weekend, the Bears defeated the University of Saskatchewan two nights in a row with a collective weekend score of 7-5. Alberta ranks first in the conference in both the power play (32.3%) and penalty kill (90.7%).
In October, the 'Birds and the Bears faced-off in Alberta, with the Bears taking both contests. There is no doubt that UBC will be back with a vengeance this weekend, hoping to reclaim their dominance on home ice.
