VANCOUVER - The No. 4-ranked UBC Thunderbirds remain unbeaten in the 2013 Canada West regular season after winning convincingly by a score of 4-0 over the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on Sunday in Prince George.

The Thunderbirds came away with the victory thakns to goals from Jasmine Dhanda and
Janine Frazao, who collected two tallies this afternoon. An own goal against UNBC opened the scoring.

Katherine Caverly got the Thunderbirds off to a quick start in the fourth minute as the third-year defender was able to curl in a corner kick that found the far post and bounced in off a UNBC player.

Jasmin Dhanda added to the Thunderbirds' lead in the 38th minute making no mistake in converting a header courtesy of a cross from veteran teammate
Janine Frazao. The tally was Dhanda's second of the season.

Janine Frazao added a goal late in the first half to give the Thunderbirds a three-goal advantage when the UBC striker intercepted a goal kick from UNBC goalkeeper Jordan Hall and buried one top shelf from just shy of the 18-yard box. The strike came in the 44th minute and gave UBC a 3-0 lead at halftime. The goal was Frazao's first tally of the season.

Just past the half-way point of the second half, Frazao got her second of the game in the 72nd minute after getting a foot on a loose ball in the goal area beating Hall to extend her team's lead to four.
Sydney Morrison and
Nicole Sydor were credited with the assists.

The Thunderbirds defence shut down the Timberwolves this afternoon preventing UNBC from gaining any momentum and limiting their opponents scoring chances.

Alyssa Williamson collected the shutout, her fourth of the season.

The Thunderbirds remain unbeaten on the season and improve to 3-0-3 without having surrendered a goal to its opponents for the fourth straight game. With the win, UBC moves into a tie for fourth place in the CIS Canada West Conference. With the loss, the UNBC Timberwolves remain winless on the season with a record of 0-7-1.

Up next for UBC is a pair of games at home against the University of Manitoba on Oct. 4Â and the University of Winnipeg on Oct. 5. Both matches are set to kickoff at 5 p.m. (PDT) at David Sidoo Field.

UNBC has a bye week next weekend and will be back in action when the team hosts Manitoba on Oct. 11 and Winnipeg on Oct. 13.
