VANCOUVER - The top two defences in Canada West women's soccer held firm on Sunday as the No. 6 UBC Thunderbirds and the host Saskatchewan Huskies battled to a scoreless draw at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.
BOX SCORE
Coming into today's matchup, UBC and Saskatchewan were first and second in the Canada West conference, respectively, in goals against. Despite close scoring opportunities on both ends, the two undefeated teams ultimately settled for a point apiece in the standings. UBC has surrendered just one goal in five regular season games in 2013.

The Thunderbirds maintained offensive control throughout most of the game, with their closest scoring opportunity early in the 62nd minute. Fifth-year player
Rachael Sawer sent a powerful shot towards the goal, but Saskatchewan goalkeeper Cara Santaga was able to brush the ball just enough to deter a goal. For the game, Santaga stopped four shots on goal while, UBC goalkeeper
Alyssa Williamson recorded two saves. Williamson earned her third clean sheet of the year.
Â
The Huskies saw their greatest scoring opportunity in the 82nd minute when fifth year Daniela Fuenzalida saw an opening within the box and took it. Her shot sailed just high over the crossbar. Over the course of the game, the Huskies directed seven shots towards the goal and UBC attempted ten.
Â
With the draw, the Huskies' record moves to 3-0-2. Next weekend, they will play the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday and the University of Calgary Dinos on Sunday, both at home at 12:00 noon (CT).
Â
This game moves the Thunderbirds' season record to 2-0-3. Next weekend, UBC will travel to Prince George to face off against the University of Northern British Timberwolves at 12:00 noon (PT).Â
