VANCOUVER -Â The UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team is coming off of a hard-fought first win of the season against the University of Victoria, who is presently ranked fourth in the country. The Thunderbirds, whose current record stands at 1-0-2, are looking forward to continue their momentum this weekend under the guidance of head coach
Andrea Neil.
Â
The team will be traveling to Saskatchewan to face-off against both the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. On Saturday, the Thunderbirds will take on the Regina Cougars (2-1-0). Last season, UBC played Regina twice, winning both times by a collective score of 7-0. The Cougars are lead by confident veterans such as Meagan Cormier, a fifth-year who was named the 2013 Canada West's First Star of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in the season opener against the University of Winnipeg.
Â
Sunday, the Thunderbirds will go up against the Saskatchewan Huskies, who are presently ranked at the top of the Canada West conference with a record of 3-0. This game will feature a matchup of the two stingiest defences in the Canada West. UBC currently leads the league in team defence, having given up just one goal in three regular season games. Saskatchewan has surrendered just two goals.
Last year, UBC played Saskatchewan only once, winning 4-0. The Huskies feature strong returning players such as second-year Jenelle Zapski, a striker who, in her first year, led the Huskies in scoring with a season total of eight goals.
Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. Pacific time with live stats at
