VANCOUVER - The UBC men's soccer sent out another strong warning to their competitors as for the second night in a row they dismantled the Trinity Western Spartans.
Paul Clerc,
Reynold Stewart (2),
Sean Einarsson,
Milad Mehrabi and
Harry Lakhan all grabbed goals as the Thunderbirds ran out comfortable winners 6-1.
BOX SCORE
"This weekend represents two quality performances and a good bounce back from last week's set back," said UBC head coach
Mike Mosher, whose team lost 1-0 to Fraser Valley a week ago. "That was more of a UBC soccer performance. I feel for Trinity Western as they have suffered from numerous injuries, but we went and took care of business as we needed to."
A delayed kickoff did nothing to hamper UBC's approach as they quickly resumed where they left off against the Spartans the night before. It took just 10 minutes for the Thunderbirds to take the lead. Clerc grabbed his second goal in two nights and Stewart grabbed two of his own to take his season tally to three. Einarsson added a fourth five minutes before the break and a Spartan goal a couple of minutes later was a mere consolation even at that point in the game.

No. 4-ranked UBC entered the half-time break with a 4-1 cushion and came out looking for more. Mehrabi notched up his third goal in four games and Lakhan scored his first of the season in the 60th minute before the game petered out as the result was now inevitable.

Both teams made a host of changes as the clock rolled down. Shots were 17 to 5 in UBC's favour as the Spartans tried to keep the damage to a minimum.

The Thunderbirds now have sole ownership of top spot in the Pacific Division and a three-point lead over the University of Victoria, who have a game in hand.
UBC (3-1) will have a chance at revenge against Fraser Valley as they host the Cascades next week in Sept. 20, before travelling to Victoria for a match versus the Vikes on Sept. 21.
