VANCOUVER - In its last game of the preseason, the UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team was held to a 0-0 tie by the Langara College Falcons on Friday night at Varsity Field.
BOX SCORE
UBC player Rachael Sawer (North Vancouver, BC) had her shot bounce off the goalpost in the dying seconds of the game. That final unlucky play forced the T-Birds to settle for a draw, despite dominating the match.
UBC outshot Langara 15-3 and also had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Christina Donnelly (Ottawa, ON) led the T-Birds with four shots, including three in a span of about six minutes midway through the second half, all of which were kept of the net by Falcons goalkeeper Brittany Bligh. She also had a great opportunity in the 20th minute but she headed her shot high.
Emily Wilson (Maple Ridge, BC) started in net for UBC and was replaced by Alyssa Williamson (Langley, BC), who recorded the only save of the game for either keeper, at halftime.
The Thunderbirds finished the preseason with one win, one loss and one tie. The team will open regular season play on Saturday, Sept. 7 at home against the defending CIS champion Trinity Western University Spartans. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium.
