Steven Stanford stopped 33 of 34 shots and
Ben Schmidt recorded two points to lead the UBC Thunderbirds to a 3-1 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday night at Nicholas Sheran Arena in Alberta to complete a weekend sweep.

With the win, UBC improves to 5-10-1, while Lethbridge falls to 1-14-1. UBC also wins the season series 3-1.
In the first period,
Luke Lockhart and
Nick Buonassisi controlled the Thunderbird offence, carrying in the momentum from Friday night. Despite both teams putting up twelve shots on goal, neither was able to succeed and the first period ended 0-0.
Lethbridge's Brent Henke opened up the scoring for the night, putting the sole Pronghorns goal on the scoreboard five minutes into the second period. Henke received assists from Mason Conway and Daniel Iwanski.
A minute and a half later, UBC responded with a goal from
Cole Wilson, who received assists from
Nate Fleming and
Joe Antilla. Though they were unable to capitalize on power plays, UBC took a game-high 14 shots on goal during the second period.
In the third,
Brad Hoban recorded UBC's second goal of the night at 4:47, and captain Schmidt would contribute the T-Birds' third and final of the night during the last minute of play to give UBC the 3-1 win. This marked Schmidt's third goal of the weekend.
Over the course of the weekend, Stanford made 62 saves for the 'Birds. UBC outshot Lethbridge 39-34 on Saturday. Total shots for the weekend were 89-65 in favour of UBC.
After winter break, the Thunderbirds will return to the ice for two non-conference games in Burnaby. UBC will face the University of North Dakota in a 7 p.m. game at Bill Copeland Arena on Friday, Jan. 3. The next day, the team will play Princeton University at 4 p.m.
