Vancouver, BC - After earning a split against the University of Winnipeg last weekend in the Manitoba captial, the UBC Thunderbirds men's volleyball team will host the Calgary Dinos for a two-game series this Saturday and Sunday afternoon at War Memorial Gymnasium.

Both the Thunderbirds and Dinos currently sit tied in the Canada West standings at 5-3, however, UBC is the No.4 ranked team in the CIS, while Calgary somehow remains unranked.

Last weekend, was a tale of two teams for UBC, five-set loss Friday night and a straight sets victory Saturday night. In the first of two contests, the 'Birds were led by
Quentin Schmidt,
Ben Chow, and
Alex Russell, who tallied 15, 15, and 14 kills, respectively. Setter
Ian Perry also put-up 43 assists and libero
Noah Derksen contributed 10 digs. In the second game of the weekend,
Gabriel Aaron,
Mac McNicol, and Chow led the team's offense with 10, 9, and 9 kills, while setter
Milan Nikic recorded 33 assists. It was Nikic's first full game back since injuring his ankle in the opening game of the regular season. The diversity and effectiveness of the team's lineups serves as a testament to its strengths, which will undoubtedly be tested this weekend against Calgary.

Calgary comes in having won four of its last five matches including a split with Trinity Western. The thrilling five-set victory for the Dinos handed the previoulsy No.1 ranked team in the CIS its first loss of the season. The Dinos were led by outside hitter Darcee Froese, who scored a game-high 17 kills. Connor French and Greg Mann fell not far behind with 14 and 13 kills. Dino setter Alex Cook also tallied a remarkable 48 assists.
