Vancouver, BC - Alberta is the destination for the women's soccer team this Thanksgiving weekend. Lethbridge and Calgary play host to the Thunderbirds as they look to continue their recent vein of form and power to another two wins. UBC have the ability to move to second in the conference if results elsewhere go their way and with the defensive record that they have displayed so far this season, it is hard to bet against them doing so.
Lethbridge sit second from the bottom of the conference and host their final two home games this weekend. The Pronghorns haven't had much success at home this year with two draws and a loss, however the road has not been kind either as they are 0-6 away from home. They have lost their last four games and their biggest problem so far has been generating offense. With just four goals scored of their own, they have had trouble generating scoring chances all season and come up against UBC who boast the best defense in the nation on Saturday. With no chance of qualification for the playoffs, Lethbridge have only pride to play for this weekend and the promise of a Turkey dinner on Monday.
Sunday's game is certainly the more enticing clash. Calgary sit two spots below UBC in the conference and only one point adrift as they too have clinched a playoff spot and look to embed themselves higher up the table and ensure a more favourable draw in the post-season. Calgary have the most potent strike-force in the league with 32 goals scored in their nine games played. They also boast five players who have scored four or more goals already, including Nikki Furukawa who has seven in just six starts. While UBC's defense and goalkeeping has been rock-solid all season, this will be their biggest test so far. Calgary certainly displays a preference for playing at home where they are currently 3-0 and only 2-2-2 away.
