WINNIPEG, MB – The UBC Thunderbirds had another dominating win today, defeating the Manitoba Bisons 3-0 at the University of Manitoba Turf Fields.
The play was even for the first 35 minutes of the game, and Manitoba forced UBC keeper
Alyssa Williamson (Langley, BC) to make key saves after some loose ball situations in front of the net. However, much like last night's game against the Winnipeg Wesmen, UBC took control towards the end of the half. Coming off the bench again and making a quick impact, midfielder
Rachel Ramsden (Richmond, BC) headed in a long cross from
Alisha Penev (Burnaby, BC) in the 37
th minute. She then put UBC up 2-0 in the final moments of the half, bouncing the ball off the crossbar and over the line on a free kick, her fourth goal of the weekend.
With the momentum now clearly on their side, UBC continued to keep the pressure high and held possession of the ball for most of the second half. They put the game out of Manitoba's reach when forward
Taryn Lim (Richmond, BC) headed in a nice set up from Ramsden in the 82
nd minute. UBC goalie
Alyssa Williamson made a total five saves to collect her second straight shutout.
The Thunderbirds moved themselves up to fourth place in the Canada West standings after earning a full six points this weekend. They will fly home to face the sixth placed University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday night. On Saturday they will look to be the first team to beat the University of Regina Cougars, who are currently undefeated at 4-0-0 this season. Kickoff for both games is at 5:00 pm at Thunderbird Stadium.
