VANCOUVER – The No. 2 Calgary Dinos scored 55 straight points to defeat the UBC Thunderbirds 62-7 in Canada West football action on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
“We battled hard today but we were overmatched defensively today and offensively,” said UBC head coach
Shawn Olson. “We didn't make any plays other than that first drive. Right now, injuries are a real concern for us, especially in the back end of our defence.”
UBC's only touchdown came on a one-yard scamper by quarterback
Billy Greene.
Calgary running back Steven Lumbala rushed for two touchdowns, while his backup Cuong Thai Lieu also recorded a major.
Dinos quarterback Eric Dzwileski threw three touchdowns, to Chris Dobko, Richard Snyder and Jake Harty, and recorded a career-high 388 yards passing, completing 24 of 27 attempts. He also rushed for a score in the third quarter.
Snyder caught his second touchdown of the game from backup quarterback Andrew Buckley. The Dinos' two pivots had just four incompletions in 35 pass attempts.
Calgary's Johnny Mark added two field goals.

Lumbala opened the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run at 1:02, capping off a three-play, 68-yard drive to start the game.
UBC replied right away when Greene broke into the end zone on a one-yard rush at 2:40. He threw long completions to
Patrick Bull (42 yards) and
Daniel English (36 yards) as part of the four-play, 83-yard drive.
But Mark's 22-yard field goal at 5:05 started a string of 55 consecutive points for Calgary.
Dobko caught a seven-yard TD pass from Dzwileski to make it 17-7 for the Dinos to end the scoring in the first quarter.
In the second period, Calgary reached the UBC end zone four times to put the game away. The Dinos led 45-7 at the half and outscored the T-Birds 17-0 after the break.
“The big concerning part right now is that we need to score more than seven points, especially with a veteran offence,” said Olson. “We need to be able to put up more points and make tough plays. Tough offensive catches, we need to come down with and today that was part of our issue.”
For UBC, Greene completed six of 19 passes for 99 yards and was also intercepted once.
Brandon Deschamps ran for 71 yards on 12 carries.
Bryan Rideout led the 'Birds with nine total tackles, while rookie
Kehl Snyder had 7.5.
Richard Snyder led Calgary with 116 receiving yards while Taylor Nill was right behind him with 105. Harty also racked up 99 kick return yards.
Defensively, Mike Edem had ten tackles for the Dinos.
UBC's next game will be in Edmonton next Saturday, Sept. 29 against Alberta. Both teams are 0-4 on the season.
Undefeated Calgary (4-0) will host Saskatchewan (2-2) next Saturday as well.
