London, England - Racing in her first Olympic final,
Martha McCabe (Toronto, ON), finished fifth in the women's 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:23.16.
“Coming into tonight I thought there was nothing to lose here, the first 50 just go,” said McCabe who will celebrate her 23rd birthday on Sunday. “It's not a podium finish like I was hoping, but it is another learning experience. I'm upset now just becuase I was dreaming of a medal. I've put my heart into this so it means a lot."
Rebecca Soni of the United States won the gold medal, setting a world record for a second straight day, clocking a time of 2:19.59.
It was a very fast race. McCabe's time was a second better then the time she clocked en route to winning a bronze medal at the 2011 World Aquatic Championships.
