Former T-Bird Milton selected in CFL Draft

VANCOUVER – Former UBC Thunderbirds defensive back Lance Milton was selected in the Canadian Football League draft this afternoon.

The Montreal Alouettes picked the Calgary product in the fourth round, 26th overall.

"This is truly one of the happiest days of my life," said Milton. "I want to thank my family, coaches and teammates for all the support over the years. It's a dream come true."

Milton spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons playing for UBC, registering 27 tackles in 10 games.

"Lance is an outstanding athlete and person," said UBC head coach Shawn Olson. "He was one of our top players and defensive backs and players. He has continued to work hard in the gym and on the field with his former teammates whenever possible and his hard work has paid off. I am very excited about the opportunity in front of him and I believe Montreal will be very happy with what they have invested in him."

Milton is the first Thunderbird player drafted since the Calgary Stampeders grabbed offensive lineman Oamo Culbreath with the 46th pick in the 2010 draft.

UBC will begin its 2012 football season on Aug. 25 with a non-conference home game against Menlo College.  The Thunderbirds' first Canada West game will be a week later on Sept. 1 at home against Manitoba.
