Vancouver, BC - The top two offensive teams in the Canada West were anything but Friday night as #1 ranked Alberta and #9 ranked UBC waged a defensive battle with the Golden Bears coming out on top 2-0 at Clare Drake Arena.
Ben Lindenmulder broke a scoreless tie with 7:15 remaining in the third period, a goal which proved to be the game winner. The Golden Bears would add an empty netter to seal the deal and earn the 2-0 win. With the loss the Thunderbirds four game winning streak comes to an end, while Alberta extends their winning streak to nine games.
With the victory, the Golden Bears improve to 12-3-0 on the season and remain in top spot in the conference, while the Thunderbirds fall to 8-4-1, three points behind second place Saskatchewan and one point up on fourth place Manitoba.
The Thunderbirds were outshot in every period and 37-21 overall.
Jordan White (Surrey, BC) was the game's first star, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced. Kurtis Mucha picked up the shutout in net for the Golden Bears, stopping all 21 shots he saw.
Jordan Hickmott scored the empty net goal for his league leading 12th goal of the season. Lindenmulder finished with a goal and an assist.
Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play.
These two teams will do battle again tomorrow night, as puck drop is at 5:00 pm PST at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.
