No. 10 UBC Thunderbirds (6-1-0)
Last Week: W 4-0 vs Saskatchewan, W 6-0 vs Regina
Janine Frazao took home Canada West and CIS Athlete of the Week honours for her five-goal performance last weekend. The 2011 conference scoring champ now leads the T-Birds with eight on the year, and is tied for second in Canada West.
Frazao netted one goal and assisted two others against Saskatchewan before exploding for four against Regina.
Taryn Lim assisted all four of Frazao's tallies against Regina, and she's got six goals of her own this year as well, making her a versatile part of UBC's dangerous attack.
Kelly Cook has led the T-Bird defence to shutouts in all of her four games played this season. She has chipped in offensively as well with two goals already, including a great header off a corner last weekend. Her ability to play the ball in the air gives the T-Birds an advantage at both ends of the field.
No. 8 Alberta Pandas (4-0-2)
Last Week: W 6-0 vs UNBC
The Pandas should be well-rested and ready to go, as this will be their third straight weekend at home, and they've played just one match each of the past two weekends.
Both of those games were convincing wins, albeit against struggling opponents. It's been a while since the Pandas have squared off against a true contender, though they did play the unbeaten Victoria Vikes to a 1-1 draw, so they aren't completely untested.
Third year forward Kayla Michaels is coming off a big game against UNBC, with two goals and two assists. She now leads the team in both categories, with six and three respectively.
Senior midfielder Carleigh Miller is next with four goals, while also helping shore things up at the back. The Pandas have allowed just three goals all year, and should provide a tough challenge for the potent UBC attack.
Mount Royal Cougars (0-4-2)
Last Week: T 2-2 vs UNBC
Like the Pandas, the Cougars haven't had to leave home in a while and should have fresh legs coming two single-match weekends. But unlike the Pandas, they are still searching for their first CIS win and have had major trouble keeping the ball out of their net.
The Cougars are allowing close to three goals per game, including giving up two to a UNBC team last week that had scored just a single goal all season prior to that game.
Things are tough offensively as well, though they have picked up over the past few weeks. The Cougars started off their CIS existence with three straight shutout losses, but have now scored four goals in their past three games.
Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Kinzner leads the way with two goals. Rookies Kirsten Bloom and Caitlin Specht each have a goal as well.
