VANCOUVER – The No. 7 UBC Thunderbirds dropped a 2-1 decision on the road to the No. 5 Victoria Vikes in a battle of top 10 CIS women's soccer teams on Friday.
BOX SCORE
Host Victoria scored twice in eight minutes in the first half to secure the win.
Vikes striker Emma Greig took the lead in the Canada West scoring race over UBC's
Janine Frazao (Port Moody, BC) with a header goal in the 24th minute.
Then in the 32nd, Jacqueline Harrison scored on a two-on-one to give Victoria a two-goal advantage heading into the break.
UBC got on the scoreboard in the 76th minute on a
Taylor Shannik (Delta, BC) goal.
Taryn Lim (Richmond, BC) crossed the ball into the 18-yard box and Shannik was just barely able to get her toe on it to slide it past sprawling Victoria 'keeper Stephanie Parker.
But UBC could not muster up the tying goal and fell to 7-2-2 on the season.
The team will finish off the regular season on Saturday at Thunderbird Stadium with a game against the Fraser Valley Cascades at 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Chilliwack's Exhibition Field but the venue is closed.
Also at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Victoria will host Trinity Western on Vancouver Island.
