Calgary, AB - In a rematch of last year's Canada West playoffs, the UBC Thunderbirds earned their ounce of revenge with a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Dinos Friday night at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB. The 'Birds rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring three power play goals on route to their second victory of the season.

UBC trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes, giving up a late goal. Cory Pritz scored with 16 seconds left in the frame to give the Dinos a one goal advantage heading into the intermission. Shots were 10-9 in favour of Calgary.
Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) got the start in his hometown and stopped 9 of 10 shots he faced in the opening frame.
The Dinos added to their lead in the second period courtesy of captain Brock Nixon. He scored his second goal of the season 4:55 into the period. The Thunderbirds would get on the board before the period was out on the power play as three rookies teamed up for the goal.
Brad Hoban (Victoria, BC) scored his third goal of the season, while
Neil Manning (Nanaimo, BC) and
Kevin Smith (North Vancouver, BC) picked up the helpers. 2-1 is how things would stand through 40 minutes of play. Shots were 23-19 in favour of Calgary.
The Thunderbirds would take advantage of Calgary's parade to the penalty box in the third period.
Scott Wasden (West Kelowna, BC) got the equalizer on the man advantage tipping home a
Jason Yee (Victoria, BC) shot to tie the game at 2-2, 5:12 into the period. With under two minutes remaining, Wasden scored his second goal on the power play. It would prove to be the game winning goal.
Joe Antilla (Madeira Park, BC) and Yee picked up the assists.
Scott MacDonald (Surrey, BC) added an insurance marker with 42 seconds remaining to give UBC a 4-2 victory.
"We definitely got off to a slow start but we hung in there, scored three big power play goals and
Steven Stanford made the save of the year," said head coach Milan Dragicevic. " That is what I call a character win on the road."
Stanford picked up his first win of the season, making 35 saves on the night, including all 14 shots he faced in the final period.
UBC finished the night 3-for-5 on the power play, while the Dinos went 0-for-4
The Thunderbirds and Dinos will do it all over again tomorrow night at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary. Puck drop is 6:00 pm PST.
