TUCSON, AZ - The UBC Thunderbirds notched one win and one loss on Tuesday at the Tucson Invitational, which is being contested at the hot and dusty Lincoln Park.
In the game's first day, UBC narrowly dropped a 7-6 decision to no. 5 ranked Lubbock Christian University.
UBC knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of third and then took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth courtesy a two RBI single from
Carlyn Shimizu.
LCU rebounded in the bottom of the fourth with a trio of runs off home runs by Frazier and Melissa Hartkop for a 5-3 LCU lead.
UBC answered with a pair of runs to tie the game in the following inning.
Jessica Barclay led off with a single up the middle before
Tanya McLean smacked a home run to straight away centre.
LCU regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-out two-run triple by Kayla Van Dieren for a 7-5 lead.
Amanda Longorio relieved Alyssa Freight for the win for LCU, allowing a single run in the top of the seventh.
Leigh Della Siega put together another impressive performance on the mound, pitching six strong innings against one of the NAIA's most explosive offensive teams.
In their second game of the day, UBC overwhelmed Mount Marty College 18-4 with the game being called after five innings of play.
UBC's record now sits at 12-16 on the season, an impressive mark due to their consistent meetings with teams in the NAIA top 25 so far this campaign.
