CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Two days after sweeping British Columbia at Hood View Park in an afternoon double header, Corban was roughed up by the Thunderbirds thanks to a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included two home runs and six RBI by
Courtney O'Connor in an 11-3 mercy-rule win for the T-Birds. It was the highlight of a weekend that saw UBC improve to 8-8 on the season after a 4-2 performance at the Northwest Cup held at Hood View Park.
British Columbia would score three runs in the first inning on O'Connor's three-run home run and two more in the second on
Brittany Meyer's two-run long ball for a quick 5-0 UBC lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, Corban would get one run back on Winckler's second home run of the season that led off the inning and made the score 5-1.
The Thunderbirds would get three more runs in the top of the third on a three-run home run by
Jesslyn Hodge that made the score 8-1.
In the top of the fourth inning, O'Connor would put the game out of reach with her second home run via another three-run shot that increased UBC's lead to 11-1.
Corban would get another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Castronovo singled home Winckler before Nippert jacked her team-leading fifth home run of the season via a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning for the final score of 11-3.
Along with O'Connor,
Molly Gosnell also went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to go along with two-hit performances by
Alyssa Derksen and Hodge.
Kelsey Andison went the distance for British Columbia allowing three earned runs on five hits to go along with a game-high five strikeouts.
