CALGARY – In the same pool that the UBC Thunderbirds went down in defeat to the Calgary Dinos at the CIS Championships last season, the men's team showed some pride and earned a win over their rivals with a 251 to 238 score.
The T-Birds were lead by fifth-year swimmer
Tommy Gossland who earned wins in the 50 and 100 Free and lead the 4x50 Free Relay to victory.
On the women's side with just over half the team in attendance, UBC took second spot to a strong Calgary team 301 to 208.
Rookie sensation
Rebecca Terejko stepped up and took silver in the 50 Free and 100 Breast. Third-year athlete
Brittney Harley took the only win in the 200 IM with a 2:21.53.
"After taking an early flight out of Vancouver to dual Calgary in their home pool, I thought our team showed some promise," said UBC head coach
Steve Price. "Although we still have lots of work to do, the swimmers are progressing and understanding better how to get up and race tough while in hard training. The men's team has come together much better this season and you can see that in how they support each other and expect themselves to do well. We will take the win today but know we have lots of work to do if we are going to knock off the defending CIS Championships in Montreal later this season."
