LANGLEY
– The No. 3 University of British Columbia used as strong opening half to defeat the University of Victoria 2-1 in the Canada West Bronze Medal Match. The Thunderbirds outshot the Vikes 13 to two in opening 45 to take a 2-1 lead, which they would carry to the end match.
Alyssa Williamson made two saves to earn the win for the Thunderbirds, while Stephanie Parker made five saves in the Vikes loss.

Janine Frazao opened the scoring in the 10th minute of play. The Canada West Player of the Year buried a rebound off of a
Rachael Sawer shot to put UBC up 1-0 early in the match.
Victoria tied the match up in the 29th minute when Jacqueline Harrison intercepted a UBC back pass to go in alone on the Thunderbirds' Ally Williamson. Harrison neatly put the ball in the bottom left side of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
British Columbia's Sawer got her own marker three minutes later. Sawer took a pass from
Diane Rizzardo broke up the right side of the field and beat the Victoria right back to go in alone on the Vikes Stephanie Parker. Sawer got to just outside the six and chipped the ball over Parker and into the top of the Victoria net to put UBC up 2-1 in the 32
nd minute.
The teams would go back-and-forth in the midfield through the remainder of the half as the first 45 ended with the T-Birds leading by the one goal.
The two teams battled much of the second half for possession and field position, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes.
Today's match concludes the season for UBC and Victoria.
