UBC remains alive in the chase for first

VANCOUVER - The No. 3 UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team set a new Canada West record for shutouts in a season on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Calgary Dinos in southern Alberta. The win was the Thunderbirds' 11th this season without giving up a goal.  The previous record, also held by UBC, was 10.

More importantly, the win allows the team to remain alive in the race for the Canada West regular season title.

Janine Frazao scored the only goal of the game in the 69th minute, with the assist going to Rachel Ramsden. Frazao now has a Canada West-leading 13 goals on the season.

Goalkeeper Emily Wilson made two saves to record her second win of the year, both clean sheets.

The Thunderbirds outshot the Dinos 6-2 in the match.

UBC (10-1-2) trails Trinity Western (11-1-1) by two points with a game remaining for both teams.  The Canada West regular season winner gets to host the conference playoffs.

The Thunderbirds play at winless Lethbridge on Sunday afternoon while the Spartans will travel to Calgary (6-4-3).
