VANCOUVER – The No. 9-ranked UBC Thunderbirds improved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on the road Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore striker
Janine Frazao tallied a pair of goals in the second half to seal the victory, bringing her own personal total to four on the young campaign. The Port Moody, B.C., native scored in the 67th and 74th minutes to round out the T-Birds offensive onslaught in today's victory.
Rachael Sawer opened the scoring for UBC just seven minutes in. However, the host 'Horns pulled one back in the 44th minute thanks to a tally from Andrea Nippard. The level scoreline was short-lived, however, as
Lisa Furutani put UBC back in front just a minute later for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Despite the narrow advantage at the half, it was all UBC on Sunday as the Thunderbirds outshot Lethbridge 37-9 en route to peppering 20 shots on target. Lethbridge 'keeper Jaleesa Johnston made an admirable effort in goal with 16 saves but got little help from her team as the 'Horns managed just three shots on the opposing net. UBC's
Meghan Best earned her second consecutive win in net for the 'Birds, making two saves.
UBC returns home for a pair of tilts next Friday and Saturday. They welcome Manitoba and Regina to Thunderbird Park with kick-offs scheduled for 5 p.m. each night.
