VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team has quietly opened their season with a pair of exhibition victories in August.
Last week they traveled to Bellingham, WA where they defeated the Western Washington Vikings (NCAA Division II) by a score of 2-0 on goals from
Marco Visintin and
Matt Allard.
The following day, August 21, they hosted the UBCO Heat at Thunderbird Park and scored four times in the first 30 minutes en route to a 4-1 win. Goals came from newcomers
Navid Mashinchi, Erik Olson,
Graeme Webber and
Alex Orasa before the Heat tallied a penalty in the second half.
"We have a lot of depth this season and it's been good to see some of the younger, new guys get out on the pitch. There is a lot of talent on our roster but it will be important to find the right mix for the starting eleven," said UBC head coach
Mike Mosher.
UBC continues their pre-season Thursday, August 26 with a tilt against Thompson Rivers under the lights at Thunderbird Park. Start time is 8:00 p.m.
