Bears come out on top in World Cup series

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds were upended 41-10 Wednesday afternoon by the California Golden Bears at Thunderbird Stadium. The win allowed California to claim the 'World Cup' with a sweep of the two-match series, keeping the cup in Berkeley for the fourth year in a row. The Golden Bears won the opening game of the series 39-7 back on February 24 at Witter Rugby Field in Berkeley, Calif.

Cal jumped out to a quick lead on Wednesday with a pair of tries, one converted, in the first 10 minutes and made it 24-0 before the T-Birds got on the board with a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. The visitors added another try just before the half to take a 24-3 lead into the break.

UBC got on the board first in the second frame, notching a converted try in the 62nd minute, however, Cal responded with a pair of tries over the final 10 minutes to complete the 41-10 win.
