SASKATOON - Looking for a weekend sweep after four straight splits, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies will host the UBC Thunderbirds on the weekend. UBC hits Rutherford Rink Friday and Saturday with puck drop at 5:00 p.m. PT both nights.
Saskatchewan and UBC sit neck-and-neck in the standings with eight points after eight games played in the season. The Huskies are 4-4 after splitting each series they have played in this year against the Manitoba Bisons, Regina Cougars and Calgary Dinos. The T-Birds are 3-3-2 after losing two overtime games to the Dinos and Lethbridge Pronghorns.
As a team, the Huskies have only allowed a conference-low 15 goals. But have also scored a conference-low 20. The Huskies have scored more than two goals in a game just twice this season – a 9-1 blowout over the Cougars and a 4-3 overtime win over the Manitoba Bisons.
Brennan Bosch, Steven DaSilva and Steven Gillen all have recorded three goals a piece for the Huskies. Bosch also has three assists on the year. T-Birds
Justin McCrae and
Tyler Ruel each lead their team with three goals and four assists.
Max Grassi has added six assists.
Second-year goaltender David Reekie has played in six games for the Huskies tallying a .945 save percentage and a 1.51 goals against average. Rookie Ryan Holfeld has played in net for the Huskies twice allowing five goals.
Jordan White has started in all eight games this season for UBC. He enters the weekend with a 3.38 goals against average and a .876 save percentage.
