SASKATOON - The UBC Thunderbirds tied it late but the no. 7 Saskatchewan Huskies got the two points with an overtime tally from Brennan Bosch to survive with a 5-4 win at Rutherford Rink on Friday.
Bosch scored his second of the game 3:30 into the extra period on the Huskies 42nd shot of the game. He tallied his fourth goal of the season just past the midway point of the opening period to put the hosts up 2-0.
Marc Desloges made it 2-1 less than 90 seconds after Bosch's first tally, converting for the 'Birds with the man advantage. Saskatchewan responded with their own power play goal late in the period, when Ryan Funk scored at 18:52 of the first to make it 3-1.
The T-Birds drew level with a pair of late second period goals from
Max Grassi and
Ben Schmidt, scoring at the 14:38 and 17:57 marks of the middle frame respectively.
Steven DaSilva scored 65 seconds into the third to restore the Saskatchewan lead. The Huskies looked prime for the victory, however,
Tyler Ruel extended the contest with a goal at the 19:29 mark of the third.
Jordan White made 37 saves in the loss while David Reekie had 29 saves in the win.
The two squads meet again on Saturday. Puck drop is set for 5:00 p.m. PT.
