MANKATO, Minn. - Sophomore center Eli Zuck scored the only goal of the game as Minnesota State downed visiting British Columbia in men's college hockey exhibition action Monday in Mankato. UBC out shot Mankato 40-32 but couldn't find the back of the net as they ended their three-game NCAA road trip with their third loss.

With the Mavericks shorthanded with two men in the box at the time of the goal, Zuck scored unassisted on a backhanded breakaway deke at 1:40 of the third period to lift MSU to the win. Zuck's goal was the only one given up by Thunderbird netminder
Jordan White, who kicked out 31 Maverick shots in the game.
Both goaltenders for MSU - Phil Cook and Austin Lee were outstanding during the game with Cook getting the start and stopping 24 shots in just over 32 minutes of work. Lee got the win and turned aside 16 UBC shots in his nearly 28 minutes of action.
MSU rested several veterans in the game with senior defensemen Ben Youds and Kurt Davis, senior forward Rylan Galiardi, junior forward Michael Dorr and sophomore forward Eriah Hayes not dressing for the exhibition contest.
All five players are expected to play this weekend with MSU officially opening the 2010-11 campaign with a nonconference home series with St. Lawrence visiting Verizon Wireless Center Friday and Saturday.
