Marc Desloges and
Wyatt Hamilton each scored two goals, including tallies just over two minutes apart early in the third period, to lead UBC to a wild 6-5 win over the Regina Cougars on the road Friday night.
Desloges' second of the game came at the 1:53 mark of the final frame to put UBC ahead 4-2 and then Hamilton made it a three goal cushion with a short-handed marker at 3:50 of the third with
Matt Pepe in the penalty box for UBC.
The T-Birds needed all the insurance they could get as the Cougars responded with a pair of power play goals within minutes as Ryan Bender and Tyler Penny scored on the man advantage for the hosts to make it 5-4.
Ben Schmidt added a tally at 9:26 of the third to restore a two-goal buffer for the 'Birds but that only lasted for 39 seconds as Ryan Sawka matched for the Cougars midway through the frame.
UBC finally shut down Regina, holding them at bay over the remaining 10 minutes.
Jordan White made 29 saves in the win while Adam Ward took the loss, stopping 31 of the 37 UBC shots he faced.
A scoreless draw was broken less than a minute into the second when Dillon Johnstone counted for Regina. Desloges tallied his first of the game a minute and a half later before
Dustin Kimber put UBC ahead 2-1 just under seven minutes in to the second. Brett Leffier leveled the score at 8:49 of the period but Hamilton's first goal just under four minutes later put UBC ahead for good.
The two teams meet again Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. PT.
