CALGARY – All-Canadian running back Matt Walter scored three of Calgary's four touchdowns as the fourth-ranked Dinos held off the UBC Thunderbirds by a 33-16 score Saturday afternoon at McMahon Stadium.

UBC actually put up better offensive numbers, with 550 total yards to the Dinos' 532, but the Thunderbirds were unable to close out drives and settled for field goal attempts five times. Only two of those were successful for
Billy Pavlopoulos, whose other tries went for singles.
"The effort was similar between last week and this week," said UBC head coach Shawn Olson. "Guys are giving what they have, but sometimes they're just trying a little too hard to make all the plays instead of just the ones that are there for their position. In the end, we didn't make plays when we had to, and Calgary did."
'Birds quarterback
Billy Greene had the lone touchdown for UBC on a 13-yard run with just four seconds left in the second quarter. He threw to seven different receivers for a total of 281 yards and added 132 along the ground to pace the UBC attack.
Running back
Tibi Banica had 126 yards along the ground filling in for injured starter,
Dave Boyd. The running game was the best it has been since Boyd went down to injury in week two thanks in large part to Banica's first career 100-yard game.
"Our guys played really hard and didn't quit," said Olson. "I thought our game plans were spot on for what we expected to see from Calgary. We made some plays, but just didn't make enough. Defensively we weren't disciplined enough to execute what we needed to do against their running game. Offensively, we hurt ourselves with penalties at inopportune times. We found a way to make a critical mistake when we needed big plays."
Dinos quarterback Eric Dzwilewski improved to 4-0 as a starter in CIS football, completing 12 of 20 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Parker, who returned to the Dinos lineup after a three-game absence, had Calgary's other touchdown, catching five passes for 82 yards and rushing four times for 54 yards.
"The loss was a culmination of a number of things, but there's no quit in our guys," said Olson. "We just need to get back to work, and continue to get better every week. We're going to break through at some point."
