THIS WEEK: vs. Trinity Western (6-3-2), Thunderbird Park, 5:00 p.m.
LIVE STATS
VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds close out their regular season home scheduled this Saturday with the return game of a home and home series against their rivals from Langley, the TWU Spartans. Last weekend, UBC came out on top 1-0 to leapfrog TWU for second-place in the Canada West standings.
A LOOK AT THE T-BIRDS
UBC's big 1-0 road win propelled them into second place with 22 points on the season thanks to a 7-3-1 record. Catching no. 1 ranked Alberta, who is first in CW with 28 points and a game in hand, will be next to impossible, however, a win on Saturday will go a long way in locking up second place in the conference.
One big factor for this weekend will be the health of standout striker
Janine Frazao who hasn't played since being taken out of UBC's game against Victoria on October 8 after just 29 minutes. She leads UBC with seven goals in nine contests.
Lisa Furutani has stepped up in her absence and ranks second with five goals on the campaign.
Keeper Megan Best also made her first start last weekend since an injury on October 2nd, picking up her fourth clean sheet in eight games.
A LOOK AT THE SPARTANS
Trinity Western rightfully began the year as the no. 1 team in the nation after capturing last year's CIS banner and proceeded to pick up five wins by a combined 11-1 score line. It's been quite a stretch for the Spartans since then, however, as they are just 1-3-2 in their last six games.
Their potent three-headed attack of Daniela Gerig, Alicia Tesan, and Nikki Wright has been solid this season but not as dangerous as years past. Tesan, who has only earned two starts this season, and Gerig have both netted five goals on the campaign while Wright has three.
Keepers Kristen Funk and Veronika Rogina have earned five clean sheets but neither goalie has taken command as the every day number one. Funk has seven starts while Rogina has four.
