VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds topped the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 3-2 (25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 25-16, 15-5) in exhibition action at Fleetwood Park Secondary in Surrey, B.C. on Friday night. The contest served as a fundraiser for Fleetwood Park athletics.
"It was a classic exhibition match," said UBC head coach
Richard Schick. "There wasn't a lot of flow to the game and neither team really took control of the match. There were flashes of great plays from both sides but no team really forced the issue all five sets."
Ben Chow, a Fleetwood Park grad and first-year standout, and
Milo Warren led the T-Birds with 12 kills apiece at power. Right Side
Demijan Savija tallied 11 while middles
Joe Cordonier and
Cary Brett were active combining for 13 kills and nine blocks.
"Seeing such balance in our attacking game was a big positive for us," added Schick. "We'll look to build on this effort and hopefully put forth a more consistent effort on Saturday."
The BC rivals face-off again Saturday night at UBC's War Memorial Gym. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
