VANCOUVER - Global Spectrum has announced that the Norwegian men's national ice hockey team (Team Norway) will meet the UBC Thunderbirds in an exhibition game on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. Doors for the event will open at 6:30 p.m. with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Tickets went on sale Wednesday, January 27 for $12.50 (incl. GST and Facility Fee). They are only available at the Venue Box Office which is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. Ticket prices increase to $15.00 on game day.
UBC head coach Milan Dragicevic had this to say about the T-Birds' opportunity to meet Team Norway in an exhibition game: “We are excited to be playing a game against an Olympic Team from Norway. It's a once in a lifetime experience and we hope that it will be a great experience for both teams. Our guys will be ready to compete at a very high level and we expect Norway to give us a very tough game.”
Team Norway's best finish at a Winter Olympics was in 1972 when they captured eighth. Norway finds themselves in a particularly tough preliminary group at the 2010 Games - Group A - alongside Canada, the United States, and Switzerland.
The T-Birds (7-16-1) have four games left on their 2009-10 Canada West schedule and will use this exhibition game as a springboard into the final two weekends of their regular season. UBC had a bye this past weekend and following their tilt against Norway they travel to Edmonton on February 12-13 and then Calgary on February 19-20 to close out their season.
