WINNIPEG - For the third time this season the Thunderbirds defeated the #8 University of Manitoba Bisons. This time it was a 3-0 road victory at the Max Bell Centre.
In a goaltenders duel between the T-Birds'
Jordan White and the Bisons' Steve Christie, where each goalie came up with one big save after another, the Thunderbirds
Scott Wasden scored the all important first goal and the only goal that mattered as White was able to keep the Herd from getting on the score sheet. His 30 saves gave the rookie netminder his first shut-out of the season, and the first for UBC all year.
With their goalie keeping the pucks out, the T-Birds peppered Christie at the other end of the ice with 36 shots. Aided by some sloppy play by their hosts, UBC scored their first goal at game's midway mark and their second with just under eight minutes to go. Both goals resulted from Bison turnovers.
"We played hard," said UBC head coach Milan Dragicevic. "That was our best game of the year, and we kept going for the full 60 minutes."
Tyler Ruel of UBC added an empty netter to seal the victory.
The win moves the Thunderbirds to 7-11-1 on the year while the loss is the Manitoba's second in a row and drops their record to 10-5-2.
These teams square off again tomorrow, Saturday, January 16 at the Max Bell Centre. Game time is set for 5:00 PST.
