SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies moved to a winning record for the first time this season with a 5-1 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.
With the two-game sweep on the weekend, the Huskies move to 6-5-1 on the season. The Huskies have made their way back up the standings to fourth place after an uncharacteristic 1-5 start to the season. UBC drops to 3-5-1. A night earlier the Huskies beat the Thunderbirds 7-1. The win also extends the Huskies 2009-10 home win streak to five games.
In the win, four different Huskies scored and four different players had two points on the night. Jason Wagar notched a pair of goals, Chris Durand and Shaun Vey each had one goal and one assist and Steven Gillen had two helpers.
Durand opened the scoring in the game at 7:17 in the first period. The Huskies added three more goals in second period including the pair by Wagar. Wagar got his first at 4:04, followed by Kyle Bortis at 5:48. Wagar's second goal came at 12:17 to give the Huskies the 4-0 lead.
UBC leading scorer
Brandon Campos ruined Huskie rookie netminder David Reekie's bid for the shutout at 16:43 on the power play in the second period. The T-Birds had the man advantage after Zach Sim was called for interference. There was one second left on the power play when UBC scored the goal.
Vey added the Huskies final goal at 19:23 in the third period for the 5-1 win.

Francois Thuot made 32 saves in the game.
Next weekend the Huskies hit the road to face the University of Manitoba Bisons, while the T-Birds return home to host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
