Tyler enters his first season as head coach of the UBC Thunderbirds men's hockey. He was officially named head coach April 30, 2014.
Formerly the full-time assistant coach over the past four seasons, Kuntz takes over a Thunderbirds team that upset Saskatchewan in the 2014 Canada West playoffs, before losing to the eventual CIS Champions from Alberta in the conference semi finals.
Kuntz graduated from UBC in 2004 with a Bachleor of Human Kinetics. He played five seasons on the blueline for the 'Birds (1999-2004) apperating in 135 games and scoring 13 goals and notching 15 assists. He went on to play professional hockey in Germany with Huegelsheim ESV and played in the CHL with the Oklahoma City Blazers and Wichita Thunder. He also had a stint playing in Japan.
After acting as a player/coach in both Germany and Japan, Kuntz returned to UBC in 2006 where he spent two seasons as the assistant coach. He then left to pursue other business endeavors, only to return in 2010. He spent the last four years working under Milan Dragicevic as the full-time assistant coach.
He has also been an assistant coach with the Burnaby Express of the BCHL and the Vancouver North West Giants of the BC Major Midget League. He helped the Giants to a provincial championship in 2011.
Tyler and his wife Emily currently live in Vancouver with their two dogs, Rosie and Oscar.
