Fifth-year UBC Thunderbirds forward Tommy Nixon shot to the top of the Canada West scoring race after an incredible weekend performance against the Trinity Western Spartans.

In two games against TWU in Langley, B.C., Nixon scored a combined 72 points and added 20 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals.

His 45 points on Friday night were the third-most in school history as UBC triumphed 107-89. Nixon scored 14 first-quarter points to power his team to a 39-19 lead after the first 10 minutes. For the game, shot made 12 of his 17 shots from the field and went 17-for-20 from the free throw line, while also leading the team in rebounds with nine. The Kinesiology student also added five assists and five steals to cap off an outstanding night.

On Saturday, Nixon scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out another five assists to pace UBC to a 102-80 win. The Vancouver native was efficient, going 8-for-9 from the field and getting to the foul line 12 more times, converting 10 of the opportunities.

Nixon now leads the Canada West in scoring with an average of 21.2 points per game and is also third in the league in field goal percentage (60.6) and three-point shooting percentage (53.6).

UBC (9-5) has won eight straight league games and will host Pioneer Division-leading Calgary (11-4) this weekend at War Memorial Gym.
