Competing in her first major international meet this past weekend, rookie swimmer Jacomie Strydom looked right at home putting forth an impressive performance at the Arena Pro Swim Series stop in Austin, Texas featuring a number of Olympic Gold Medalists.

A native of Edmonton, AB, Strydom made the ‘A’ final of the 200m butterfly, clocking a time of 2:15.33, good enough for eighth overall. She also finished ninth in the 100m butterfly and 17th in the 400m individual medley.

Strydom and the rest of the Thunderbirds are getting set for the CIS Swimming Championships in Victoria, February 19-21.

At the Canada West Championships this past November, Strydom swept the butterfly events, winning the 50m, 100m and 200m and setting new Canada West records in both the 100m and 200m fly. She was also named the Canada West Female Rookie of the Meet.
