Fourth-year winger Ciara Malone recorded three of UBC's four tries this weekend as the Thunderbirds opened Canada West women's rugby league play.
 
The Delta, B.C., native had two tries in a 31-17 loss to No. 6 Calgary on Friday. She ran half the length of the field to score the opening try against the Dinos. Malone added her second try on another long run at the end of the game.
 
On Sunday, UBC earned its first point of the season in a 12-12 tie with Lethbridge. Malone once again got  the Thunderbird offence going with a try, diving into the in-goal area just seven minutes after the Pronghorns took the lead.
 
UBC (0-1-1) will travel to Victoria for a game against the Vikes on Oct. 4.
