Canada West Outstanding Player of the Year Kris Young was the top scorer at the CIS Women's Basketball Final 8 and led her UBC Thunderbirds to a bronze medal at the championship tournament in Quebec City on the weekend.

Young recorded 79 points over three games for an average of 26.3 per outing, as the Thunderbirds finished third in the nation. She had a tournament-best 29 field goals, nine three-point baskets and a 69.2 three-point shooting percentage. The Arts student was also fifth in assists with 12.

At the conclusion of the event, the fifth-year guard from North Vancouver, B.C., was honoured with a place on the tournament all-star team.

Her prolific scoring at the event included a 40-point performance in UBC's quarter-final win over Ryerson, which set the school record for most points in a single game, surpassing a mark that had stood since 1993.

Young moved into second place on UBC's overall (non-conference, regular season and playoff games) career scoring list with 2,384 points, passing forward Kelsey Blair (2,342) and slotting in behind guard Erica McGuinness (2,523).Â
