VANCOUVER - UBC Track and Field is pleased to announce that Byron Jack and Elena Voloshin have accepted positions as varsity coaches for the long and triple jump events. After a very successful recruiting year, Head Coach
Laurier Primeau has expanded his coaching staff to facilitate the increased team size and the great quality of incoming athletes.

Â
Byron Jack, who has two degrees from UBC and a Masters in Education (Coaching Studies) from the University of Victoria, is an alumnus of the UBC track and field team. He is a three-time Canada West champion and three-time CIS medalist in the triple jump. He made 20 consecutive appearances as an athlete at the Canadian Track and Field Championships. Jack has coached multiple BC High-School long and triple jump champions and has placed several athletes on Canadian National teams.Â
"I am honored and excited to be joining the UBC track and field coaching staff and embarking on this new endeavor. UBC Thunderbirds track and field has a long-standing tradition of excellence," says Jack. "As a former member of the team, as well as both an athletic and academic All-Canadian, I understand the value of being a varsity university athlete and the challenges it presents. I am pleased to be joining such a knowledgeable and successful coaching staff and I look forward to working with such a strong and accomplished coach as Elena".

Â
Elena Voloshin comes to the T-Birds after just completing a stint with the Canadian Team at the World Junior Championships in Poland. She has been on staff as the jumps coach for Canadian National teams since 2006 and has produced many provincial and national champions over that period. Voloshin has a degree in Civil Engineering from the Civil Engineering Institute in Makeevka, Ukraine, a Track and Field Coaching Diploma from Donetsk Sport College, and an Advanced Coaching Diploma from the University of Victoria.

Â
"I am very excited to join the UBC Track and Field team. It will be my biggest pleasure to work with a great team of coaches and talented athletes," says Voloshin. "With Byron, together, we will do all of our best in helping athletes to reach their best. I am more about actions than words so lets work together as a team and show good results."
Â
Byron Jack and Elena Voloshin will both begin their new roles with the UBC Thunderbirds immediately.
