UBC Athletics and men’s volleyball coach Richard Schick parting ways after twelve years

VANCOUVER - UBC Athletics and men's volleyball coach Richard Schick will be parting ways. The move will be effective immediately along with the search for a new head coach for the Thunderbird men's volleyball team.

"Richard has been a valued member of the UBC coaching team," says Director of Athletics, Performance and team support Gord Hopper.
"His integrity, work ethic, and passion for UBC men's volleyball and UBC as a whole are admirable."

Schick has helmed the team for the last twelve years and has a career record of 174-142. Several players who played for Schick during his time at UBC went on to play for Canada on the national stage. Multiple players also went on to represent Canada in beach volleyball.

Schick was instrumental in carrying on the now 30-year relationship UBC men's volleyball holds with the volleyball program at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea. Every four years the teams alternate travelling to each other's campus for joint training sessions.

"UBC Men's Volleyball remains an important priority for our Athletics & Recreation department," adds Hopper. "We will begin the search for the next head coach immediately."
