I'm writing to let you know our Thunderbirds Men's Hockey Coach
Tyler Kuntz is leaving as head coach effective August 1 to take advantage of an exciting new opportunity.
Kuntz, a native of Lumsden, Sask., has been named an assistant coach by the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
The full details of his new role with the Giants are available here:
http://www.vancouvergiants.com/article/kuntz-named-assistant-coachI would like to take this opportunity to thank Tyler for his 16 years of dedicated service to UBC and the T-Birds hockey program.
Tyler played defense for the T-Birds from 1999-2004 before taking a position as an assistant coach in 2006. He left UBC briefly in 2008 but returned in 2010 for another four years as an assistant coach. Kuntz was named head coach in 2014. With Kuntz behind the bench, the Thunderbirds achieved a 13-10-5 regular season record and a fourth-place finish in the Canada West league standings, allowing the team to host a playoff series for the first time in 44 years.
Please join me in wishing Coach Kuntz every success in the future.
Sincerely,
Louise Cowin
