VANCOUVER -Â It was a beautiful, warm Saturday evening to watch the sun set over David Sidoo Field as the UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team continued its shutout streak with an 8-0 win over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. This marks Thunderbirds' sixth consecutive clean sheet.

BOX SCORE
Concentrated passing and a rigorous pace led UBC to control the game for the vast majority of the first half. Two-time Canada West Most Valuable Player
Janine Frazao opening the scoring in the seventh minute, converting on a breakaway chance after
Tamara Roughead found her with a precise through ball.
Less than three minutes later, Frazao potted her second goal of the game, and the 50th regular season tally of her spectacular career. Fellow fifth-year senior
Rachael Sawer knocked a pass over top of the Winnipeg defence finding Frazao in the penalty area, where she made no mistake to put UBC up 2-0.
The UBC blitz continued as
Nicole Sydor headed home a Frazao cross for a 13th-minute score. It is Sydor's first goal of the year. After dominating the rhythm of the game and firing 13 shots towards the Wesmen net, UBC finished the first half with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, UBC continued to control the pace of the game, rarely allotting any offensive opportunities to Winnipeg. The Wesmen did get their only two shots of the game, both from Chelsea Kwasnicki, in the final 45 minutes of play. However, UBC goalie
Emily Wilson saved one while the other went over the crossbar.
In the 63rd minute, UBC came alive as second-year player
Madison Guy scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Roughead. Only two minutes later, Kym Van Duynhoven notched her second goal of the season with an assist from Sydor.
Continuing the Thunderbird momentum, rookie Jasmine Dhanda scored UBC's sixth goal of the evening and her third of the season, on a breakaway in the 71st minute.
Winnipeg then headed a UBC cross into their own net in the 75th minute before Guy rounded out the scoring in the 84th.
She sent a powerful kick into the top right corner of the net to mark her second goal of the night and the Thunderbirds' final goal of the evening.
Despite the score, head coach
Andrea Neil still feels that the team has room for improvement.
"I think the result is important; however, I would say our team performance was not solid," she said. "There are a lot of good things but a lot of things we need to go back to the drawing board and work on. The team knows that. They are satisfied with the goal scoring today but not satisfied with a lot of the flow. What was important about tonight is to have players get some playing time in as well. That's important. We need to recover and reload for the next phase."
Currently ranked No. 6 in Canada, UBC now maintains a conference record of 5-0-3. Next weekend, the Thunderbirds travel to Alberta to play against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, on Saturday, Oct. 12, and the University of Calgary Dinos, on Sunday, Oct. 13. Both games kick-off at 11 a.m.
Winnipeg will travel to Prince George next week for an Oct. 13 game at UNBC.
