Lethbridge, AB - The UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team crushed the Lethbridge Pronghorns with consummate ease on Saturday afternoon to pick up their 12
th win of the season and their 11
th win in a row. UBC scored eight and conceded none and gave a host of substitutes game-time while resting some of their starters for tomorrow's matchup against Calgary.
Milad Mehrabi grabbed the first two goals,
Harry Lakhan bent a corner kick past the near post to get their third and suddenly the 'Birds had a comfortable cushion with only 19 minutes on the clock.
Mehrabi picked up the ball in midfield and ran at the Pronghorns defense before laying it off to
Niall Cousens who finished coolly into the bottom corner.
Reynold Stewart was next to get in on the act, blasting his eighth goal of the season in off the post.
With the score 5-0 at the half, head coach
Mike Mosher decided to give a couple of regulars a rest.
Richard Meister had just two saves to make before giving way to
Chris Beck at half-time and
Alex Orasa,
Andrew Grange and
Adriano Clemente all got introduced with 45 minutes to play.
Two minutes after the restart the Thunderbirds had their sixth; an own-goal that Stewart helped create.
Lucas Reis and
Mitchell Popadynetz both came on in the 57
th minute and combined to score UBC's seventh. Reis wrapped things up in the 86
th minute when he stepped up to take a penalty that he calmly dispatched to complete the rout.
The Prongorns will host the Trinity Western Spartans in their final game of the season tomorrow afternoon. The T-Birds will travel to Calgary tomorrow to face the Dinos in their final game before hosting the Canada West Final Six.
